I have become somewhat addicted to The Great British Bake Off this summer. Perhaps it was the promise of something that was neither audit work nor sleep that kept me glued to it religiously on Wednesday evenings over the summer. Perhaps it was the cake. Who knows.
Anyone else out there watching it? And perplexed that “scrumptious” seems to be Mary Berry’s only adjective?
I’ve been cooking since I got back from New York… last night was mini beef Wellingtons, today there was apple cake. Beef wellies worked a treat; the apple cake less so. I blame the fact that I only worked out after I’d made the batter that it was vegan (the lack of eggs should have tipped me off earlier!) so likely to be different to what I’m used to anyway.
Oh, books. Normally I talk about books, not cake. Somehow I seem to have ended up with extra spare time. All this time off is clearly good for me!
So, I finished Let the Great World Spin by Colum McCann earlier today, lying on the sofa with the sunshine streaming onto my feet. Going to sit down this afternoon and try to write my first book review in about 4 months, about a book that I think will get about 6/10. It was a good book while I was reading it, but nothing in it will stay with me, I don’t think.
