Booking Through Thursday – Equality

Btt2 Today’s Booking Through Thursday:

All other things (writing quality, story, etc) being equal, which would you rather read?1. Something written by a man or a woman?
2. Something with a male or female protagonist?
3. Something funny or something tragic?
4. Something short or something long with many parts?
5. Something simple or something layered?

Tricky, this one. My statistics from last year (not yet shared but they will be once I have finished reviewing everything and got the stats all up to date!) will be shared but I suspect that my favourites would be along the lines of woman writing about woman with semi-tragic fortunes in layers, many-parted book.

The Tenant of Wildfell Hall, I Capture the Castle, The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake, Jane Eyre, Hunger Games, Bel Canto*, I’m looking at all of you here.

(* Bel Canto has a male protagonist)

Interesting answer. I didn’t think to look through what I read last year. But I would have to say I think most of the books I read are by women, but I also read books by men as well.

I like how you expressed it: “semi-tragic fortunes in layers.” I, too, have definite preferences, but with exceptions….here’s MY BTT POST

Ooh, I didn’t look through my books from last year. Now you’ve got me curious to see how those contradict or match what I think my preferences are.

Looking forward to seeing your stats post. I’m logging my stats for the first time this year because I always love reading other people’s posts on them.
