This week’s Musing Mondays is still asking
Musing Mondays asks you to muse about one of the following each week…
• Describe one of your reading habits.
• Tell us what book(s) you recently bought for yourself or someone else, and why you chose that/those book(s).
• Tell us what you’re reading right now — what you think of it, so far; why you chose it; what you are (or, aren’t) enjoying it.
Reading habits: carrying 3 paperbacks in my handbag – my current read, my next read in case my current read runs out, and the last book I read that I need to review… no wonder I have a back problem.
Books I recently bought: none – I’m trying to restrain myself in 2013! I made it 2 months in 2012 without buying a book (and I have a feeling there were exigent circumstances in March 2012 when I broke my ban…)
Reading right now: The Jane Austen Book Club by Karen Joy Fowler. I’m not convinced – it’s destined for a DNF pretty soon I think. I appreciate all the Jane excitement (did you pick up on some of it yesterday? BBC, Telegraph coverage of the 200th anniversary of the publication of Pride and Prejudice, still one of my favourite Austens despite having had to read it at school), but the stories of the women involved are pretty dark – lots of semi-abuse, divorce, neglectful relationships. Next on the list, The Dying Minutes by Martin O’Brien – a crime thriller (my favourite) set in Marseilles (I do like a good foreign location…).
