Lawrence Durrell Centenary

A brief public service announcement: yesterday was Lawrence Durrell’s centenary and for those who might be interested, there is a forum happening in June in London:  http://durrell2012.com/ has it all. And all news and updates are on the FB page Durrell 2012: The Lawrence Durrell Centenary.

Durrell wrote the libretto for Peggy Glanville-Hicks’ opera Sappho, which will have its world premiere recording in June 2013 thanks to Owl’s Nest Opera. Which I challenge any of you to have known before you read this post.

Never read him, but feel I ought to (I have the Alexandria quartet and the other one in my TBR piles though).

Preferred Gerald Durrell, myself. Leaped on each new one and lapped it up. Perhaps not literary, but warm and furry.
