Sunday Salon – shattered

My, what a week that was. 3 exams over 3 days, totalling 11 hours and one very sore right arm and hand (I’m one of those people who presses down so hard when writing that I have been known to damage wooden surfaces). One two-day course in Preston, including a fun session on delegation and a few deathly dull hours on methodology.

Oh, and a 40km cycle. 24 hours later I can move without any great pain, but I am completely exhausted and none of my muscles feels like it’s operating at 100%. Including my hands (from gripping the handlebars so tightly hauling myself up hills!).

And The Resident Cousin moved out so I am having to make my own tea and keep my frivolous observations about Glee to myself. Sad times. L – have fun on your Tour de Europe!

Book wise, I finished Rules of Civility, by Amor Towles, listened to a bit more of Stef Penney’s The Tenderness of Wolves, started and did not like Jennifer Egan’s A Visit from the Goon Squad, and picked up the first of the Harry Dresden series, Storm Front by Jim Butcher, at The Physicist’s encouragement. Quite easy to read, although the writing is a little amateurish (The Physicist tells me it improves), still not sure if I will want to carry on with the rest of the series.

Congrats on your ride! I am exactly the same way with…gripping things. I can’t crochet because I clench my hands so tight that they cramp up within minutes! It’s always a challenge to stay relaxed on my bike, too.

Hi Cori, thanks for stopping by! I don’t normally have a hand-grippy issue (saying that, I have interesting calluses on my right hand because of just how tightly I hold a pen!), but it is clearly a bike challenge because I have a callus from where my wedding ring rubs on my hand against the handlebars. It’s the tiny things you notice, isn’t it!

Congrats on completing your ride! I’m glad to hear it went well, some aches and pains aside. I hope you liked it enough to do it again some time!
