Armchair BEA – Tuesday

I’m joining in Armchair BEA for the first time (I didn’t even know what it was last year…) this year and quite excited about all the material coming up in the next few days. See here for my first post.

Today’s topic is: Best of 2011

What a good opportunity to reflect on 5 months’ reading.

My top reads of 2011 so far have been (titles link to reviews):

Vanessa Farquharson – Sleeping Naked is Green – 10/10

Penelope Lively – Moon Tiger – 9/10

David Mitchell – The Thousand Autumns of Jacob de Zoet – 10/10

David Nicholls – One Day – 9/10

Ann Patchett – Bel Canto – 9/10

Frances de Pontes Peebles – The Seamstress – 9/10

Diane Setterfield – The Thirteenth Tale – 9/10

So I’m definitely with you on One Day, and (I think, it’s a while since I read it) on Bel Canto. But I found Thousand Autumns a bit bewildering – I’m not seeing what other people find so amazing, I think.

Glad you agree re One Day and Bel Canto. Thousand Autumns – I can see how people could be underwhelmed. I loved part one, and that sustained me through part two, which I found a bit pointless.
